When I was 13 I went to see Return of the Jedi. I got chills when Darth Vader decided to drop his deadbeat Dad rep and save Luke Skywalker from certain death at the hands of Emperor Palatine. Yeah…I’m a Star Wars geek. Wow. It feels so good to finally say it out loud. I left the theater wanting to see the movie at least 18 or 19 more times. Fast forward 26 years and that 13 year-old kid in my heart (some would say he’s younger) is back. Star Trek was so much fun I wanted to grab another Diet Coke and walk right back in for the next show. I think J.J. Abram’s Star Trek is this generation’s Star Wars. It was that good.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto ably step into the boots of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. Pine’s James T. Kirk is fearless and cocky. Quinto’s Mr. Spock is cool but conflicted. The story follows Kirk and Spock along with the rest of the crew on their first mission together aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. The movie is jam-packed with starship battles, time-traveling Romulans, and exploding planets. This is a movie for Trekkers (don’t you dare call them Trekkies) and non-Trekkers alike. You don’t have to know a thing about Star Trek to love this movie. Just ask my wife. Go ahead…ask her. I’ll wait here.
Taking my word for it I see. Your trust will not go unrewarded. Trust me.
For those of us who are Star Trek fans, we get enough references and surprises to satisify our Treketite. [I like inventing words. Here's another one: Grochification. ] The only original cast member to make an appearance is Leonard Nimoy who reprises his role as the openly Vulcan Mr. Spock. I won’t tell you how he fits in to the movie. I’ll just say he time travels to the past in order to save the future. I’ve said too much haven’t I? Dammit!
The supporting cast is great. This movie could not have been cast more perfectly. Karl Urban is just as Bones as Bones himself the late DeForest Kelley. Zoe Saldana is hot (by “hot” I mean a fine actress) as Uhura and Simon Pegg is pee in your pants funny as Scotty. As long as this cast stays together, J.J. Abram has found a way to keep the franchise going for years to come. He’s managed to breath new life into the Star Trek universe while keeping the memory of Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the original gang’s adventures alive. I bet Gene Roddenberry would be pleased.

Nice Trekifaction, dude. I have not seen the movie, but your review was sooo good that I don’t feel I have to see it now. It’s a part of me, much like your grochification. And nice plug for Diet Coke. That plug came across clearly on my Dell computer.
My favorite Star Wars movie was when the little dude followed the trail of Reeses Pieces and then phoned home. I knew at that moment I wanted to be a Jedi.
Jedocious!
I have not met Zoe Saldana, but I can see by her name that she is hot, in a foreigny kind of way. I remember when I got my first Uhura Hoop. I still can’t shake my hips right to make that thing spin around me, which is frustrating when small children can spin Uhura Hoops with seemingly little effort.
My point: Nice rant.
I asked your wife. She said to not trust you.
