This Is It

If you like music and dancing you’ll like this movie. If you like chicken tenders and grilled cheese sandwiches you’ll like this movie. Especially if you see if at a Studio Grill. Most importantly, if you like Michael Jackson you’ll like this movie. A lot. Michael Jackson was an amazing talent and this movie will remind you of that.

The movie takes you behind the scenes to what would have been one hell of a great comeback and proved that the King of Pop still had it. There were great moments involving Michael showing the young dancers how it’s done.  He also had a full grasp of exactly what he wanted musically.  Although he was soft spoken, he had no problem articulating what needed to happen in order to satisfy his expectations. When mistakes were made he simply said ”this is why we rehearse” and started again.

I recommend seeing this movie at a movie theater if you can. I often forgot where I was. That happens to me a lot though.  I felt less like I was watching a documentary and more like I was a fly on the wall at the rehearsals. The musicians were top rate (especially the young Australian guitar slinger Orianthi Panagaris) and the dancers were amazing.  The urge hit to break out my white man’s overbite and groove to every song. I even caught myself preparing to applaud after almost every performance. Somehow I don’t think I was the only one.

Damn that would have been a great concert.
