The Blind Side

What can I say about The Blind Side that has not already been said? How about this one: worst science fiction movie ever? Ok even I didn’t think that was funny. Sorry. I will say that it was the best feel good movie I’ve seen this year. No one has said that. Well at least no one has said that as me. Until now. So….that’s cool.

The movie follows the true story of Michael Oher, a shy homeless African-American teenager who in taken in by Leigh Anne Tuohy and her caucasian-American family. Through hard work and love (yes sweet family love) Michael goes on to play football for Ole Miss and becomes an All-American football player.  The movie is heartwarming, funny, and all the usual things you would expect from the feel-good movie of the year.

Before I get to Sandra Bullock I just want to mention that unknown actor Quinton Aaron did a great job in the role of Michael Oher. He was likeable and real. Also, Tim McGraw was enjoyable as Leigh Anne’s supportive and amused husband Sean.  Leigh Anne and Sean’s humorous, sarcastic ribbing of each other reminded me of conversations I’ve had with my wife. In one conversation Leigh Anne told Sean he was right about something (I wasn’t really paying attention to what. I’m not good at that) and he replied, “How’d those words taste coming out of your mouth?” to which she responsed, “Like vinegar”. One of my favorite movie lines of the year.

Now….let’s talk about Sandra Bullock shall we? I think she should at the very least get an Oscar nomination for this one. It was definitely her best work and proof to me that she’s not just a romantic comedy actress. In fact, there were times I forgot that she is Sandra Bullock. That’s hard to do because she’s really hot. According to what I just wrote.

But seriously folks, I do recommend this movie. Feel-good ain’t bad.
