For my money, which is about a $1.32 at the moment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2 was absolutely the 7th Harry Potter movie. It was also the darkest and most battliest. This is not your grandfather’s Harry Potter. He’s all growed up and ready to kick some ass with his magic wand. In HPATDHP2 our hero Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) finally faces his destiny in a battle to the death with evil Darth Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). But unlike Voldemort, Harry has friends and he’s not afraid to use them.
I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series, but I bet if I read them I would. One day I intend to learn to read and do just that. Until then, thankfully, I have about 10 years of movies to watch. And watch them I did. A couple of weeks before the opening of HPATDHP2 my beautiful wife (she-who-does-know-how-to-read) and I watched the hell out of the first six movies. I had seen them all before, but only remembered bits and pieces from each on account of my short term memory short term memory. I really enjoyed the first six movies and I enjoyed HPATDHP2 as well. While I wouldn’t say this was the best movie of the series, I would say it was thoroughly entertaining and a fitting way to go out.
SPOILER ALERT: Soylent Green is people.
If you are a fan of the Harry Potter series and/or have seen all of the previous movies this is a must see. If you know nothing of the world of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the gang then I really have to ask you why the heck would you want to go see this movie? It’s got ”part 2″ in the title for Snape’s sake! Silly Muggle.
In all serious-ishness, to those of you out there in the internets who have never seen one of these movies I would recommend going to your local DVD / Blu-ray broker this weekend, rent all 6 Potter flicks, grab some popcorn and your favorite beverage of choice, and plant your can on the couch for about 15 hours of movie magic. If you like them, and I think you will, hop on your broom and head to your local movie barn to catch this one on the big screen.
